The best way to improve your accent for American English

Why Pitch and Intonation are Important

What makes the most difference in sounding like a native speaker of a language is having native-like intonation. Pronunciation of individual sounds comes second. Why? Because so much is expressed through intonation. This is the "music" of a language that people notice right away.

When a client described his feeling of having “filters” of differences between him and a native speaker, I knew that prosody is one of the biggest filters there is because it’s the most immediately noticeable. If you can reduce that filter of difference then people will notice your words instead of the unfamiliar melody and that’s a great head start on making a connection with someone.

The bad news is that prosody is the number one speech feature that people tell me they were never taught when they learned English.

The good news is that it’s the most easily changeable and this is how you get started.

You will learn through audio and video examples:

1. What to listen for

2. How to practice control

3. When to use pitch to create the meaning you want to express

After this course, you will hear the world around you in a completely different way.

Everything you hear in the world around you will become your classroom and laboratory.
